The West Hendon Bear
If you’d visited the area back in the 1870s, you might have met the famed West Hendon Bear. Local legend tells that while it was a gentle creature most of the time, that wasn’t always the case. First it caused excitement by escaping its enclosure (maybe it wanted to go shopping?) and then attempted to eat a local gardener who got a bit too close. If only it was 140 years later the bear would have been able to dine in style!
